Kotug's green policy

Fuel competition

KOTUG has an active ‘’green’’ policy, trying to minimize its environmental footprint. In October 2009 we won a Fuel Saving Competition for the Inland Shipping Industry in The Netherlands, having saved no less than 12% fuel over 6 months time. This was achieved by creating fuel awareness with the captains (for example by using fuel meters that immediately show the extra gasoil usage when the tug accelerates) and a good planning of, and communication to the crew on the tugs.

In 2010 the ZP Chandon won the fuel competition for individual vessels.

Sulphurfree

Already in 2007, KOTUG made a significant step towards saving the environment. KOTUG then switched to sulphur-free (EN 590) bunker fuels, the result of a collaboration with Argos Oil. KOTUG was the first services-company in the Rotterdam region to use this more environmental friendly fuel-type. In the meantime our fleet, active in the ports of Hamburg and Bremerhaven and in the Offshore, also run on EN 590 fuel or are being prepared for it.
